Update June 2014

Carleton Childcare has been awarded Placement Provider of the Year by Blackpool and the Fylde College. This was for services we committed to in helping students who are studying to be childcare practitioners. This ranged from offering training placements to our manager guest speaking at college events. This is a great achievement to be selected from all local providers who offer placements and commit to local training.

In addition to this, the college also nominated two of our staff for Student of the Year for their academic achievements in their degree in Early Years. We were extremely proud when one of them won the award. WELL DONE.

Eco Schools Awards

Carleton Childcare has gained an Eco-Schools award which is an international award programme that guides schools and early years settings on their sustainable journey. It provides a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school/nursery life. Eco-Schools helps enhance the curriculum and get the whole setting united behind something important.

At Carleton childcare our mission is to make the setting sustainable and to bring about behaviour change in young people and those connected to them. So that good habits learned in nursery are followed through into homes and communities.

These were all aspects we already take seriously in the setting and actively ensure that we reuse, recycle and reduce whereever and whenever we can from composting to reusing junk materials. This seemed a natural step for us to apply for the award as all staff are already passionate about this topic that affects us all.

The benefits we get from joining Eco Schools are:

  • Enhances the curriculum
  • Links to the community
  • School /nursery improvements
  • recycle, reduce, reuse
  • Recognition of work

What are we doing

Once registered, we follow a simple seven-step process which helps us to address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.

Children and staff are the driving force behind Eco-Schools we now begin to record and improve the steps we already have in place.

Measure and record all aspects of the eco schools advice into the curriculum and help to make learning, both inside and outside the classroom, fun and engaging.

Carleton Childcare is applying for recipe 4 health

This is a Lancashire Trading Standards scheme for anyone who provides food in their setting

As a childcare setting that focuses on healthy eating, cares about the environment, and is socially responsible, we feel that this is an important step to ensure we are recognised for what we do.

The scheme, Recipe 4 Health awards businesses at three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold.

At each level, we have to show we are compliant with food safety, food standards, and awareness of healthy eating, environmental issues and allergen issues.

To apply we have to have passed our last environmental health inspection then complete a self-assessment form, which asks for information about our practice. This is then returned to Trading Standards, who will assess the form and any evidence provided.
